San Francisco Has More Than the Golden Gate!
Cero Anthony's Wedding Cakes Are Works of Art, Beauty and Flavor.
By Deborah McCoy
San Francisco and its brides are very lucky indeed to have Cero Anthony in town. A master at his craft (take a look at the photos in this article), Anthony has been providing brides in the Bay area with his works of art and taste for about thirty years.
Imagine graduating with a B.A. in marketing and advertising from San Jose State and then landing a job at Stanford University, where you worked on federal government documents. In the interim, you search for that one hobby that will allow you to spread your creative wings and provide an outlet for your artistic talents. But what could it be? For Anthony, it was cake decorating.
He became fascinated by buttercream, that succulent, gooey frosting that puts cake over-the-top when you take that first bite. But to Anthony, buttercream was more than frosting, it was a gateway to an unlimited expression of design and talent. The pastry bag became his artist's palette, while its various tips became the brushes that created roses and ruffles and flourishes that when combined with the his imagination, turned an ordinary cake into a work of art. Anthony found his niche.
It was time to take his hobby seriously. He enrolled in the Adult Regional Vocational Training Program for Professional Baking in San Jose and later attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. But he attributes his most formal and extensive training to Max Ackerman.
